In ancient times, the service of a summons was considered a royal act that had serious consequences. In ancient Persia failure to respond to the King's court meant an almost certain sentence to death. Today the penalty for ignoring a summons may be entry into a default money judgment that can subsequently be enforced.

Who must be served !
It is only effective to serve subpoena papers if the right person is served. State statutes generally allow for the serving of documents to a managing member of a corporation or a clerk at an office. If the individual is a minor then documents must be served on a guardian of the child or someone in charge of the defendant's affairs. When there is a partnership, then both partners of the partnership must be served.
Process Servers.
Every Seattle process server must be over the age of 18 and not a party to the action, as dictated by Washington law. A defendant cannot avoid accepting delivery of court papers; if the defendant refuses to accept the documents it is acceptable to leave them at the defendants feet or on his windshield!
What is sewer service !
Sewer service is the process of illegally serving documents to a defendant in a court case, commonly known as sewer service. Sewer service is not delivering the papers at all, or just throwing them in the trash or sewer, hence the name sewer service. Anyone caught filling out a false affidavit (fraud) can be prosecuted for perjury by the courts. There are currently three methods of service: personal service (preferred), substituted service and service by publication (nail and mail). All three methods of service are acceptable in most cases but personal service is always the best option, particularly because it is the hardest to attack in the courts. Personal service is the traditional method of delivering papers by hand to a defendant. Currently Washington does not allow a Seattle process server to serve subpoena or summons papers with nail and mail service.
